The following gives some examples of the level of ability for the A2 Flyers.

LISTENING AND SPEAKING:

  • CAN understand instructions given in more than one sentence
  • CAN understand simple spoken descriptions of objects, people and events
  • CAN understand simple conversations on everyday topics
  • CAN ask basic questions about everyday topics
  • CAN tell short, simple stories using pictures or own ideas
  • CAN give simple descriptions of objects, pictures and actions
  • CAN talk briefly about activities done in the past

READING AND WRITING:

  • CAN understand simple written descriptions of objects, people and events
  • CAN understand simple, short stories containing narrative tenses
  • CAN read and understand short texts, even if some words are unknown
  • CAN link phrases or sentences with connectors like ‘and’, ‘because’ and ‘then’
  • CAN write simple descriptions of objects, pictures and actions
  • CAN write a short, simple story using pictures or own ideas

1. LISTENING TEST

  1. Match names outside a picture with the people that are inside a picture
  2. Answer questions about a place, trip, party etc.
  3. Match people or objects in one set with pictures of objects in another set.
  4. Choose the picture with the correct information.
  5. Choose the correct parts of a picture and understand colouring and writing instructions.

2. READING AND WRITING TESTS

  1. Match words with describing sentences.
  2. Choose the correct missing parts of a conversation.
  3. Choose correct words to fill gaps in a short story and the correct title for the story.
  4. Choose the right word to fill gaps in a short text.
  5. Find words in a story to complete sentences.
  6. Think of words to complete a diary or message text.
  7. Write a short story based on three pictures.

3. SPEAKING TEST

  1. Find differences between two pictures (objects, colours, numbers, positions, actions etc.)
  2. Ask for and give information about two similar situations
  3. Talk about pictures that tell a story
  4. Answer questions about yourself
