Impromptu Speech Topics for English Students
Impromptu Speech Competition

At our school, we prepare students for impromptu speech competitions as a way to practice public speaking, build confidence, and learn to think quickly. We start with Show and Tell, where students bring something from home, talk about it, and answer questions. Once they gain confidence, we move to Impromptu Show and Tell, where they pick a random card and make up a short story. The final step is full blown impromptu speeches. At first, students get the topic in advance and speak for one minute. Later, with 2-3 minute preparation time, they must speak for up to three minutes on a random topic (see topics below).
